Iveco introduced at Eurosatory 2016 an improved, higher
performace new variant of its Light Multirole Vehicle (LMV) family of light tactical vehicles. Sofar Iveco delivered over 4,000LMVs to 13 customers worldwide. The largest
fleets are operating in Italy, Belgium, UK, Russia
and Spain. The new vehicle designated LMV 2 is a major improvement over the
original LMV, that has been modified and adapted through the years, adding more
protection, capacity and electronics to meet user demand. LMV 2 increases the baseline platform
to better meet new demands, for higher performance, greater
reliability and increased crew comfort. The result is a growth of about 40
percent in payload capacity from 800 up to 1500 kg, depending on vehicle
configuration and armor suite.

BAE Systems Hägglunds is hoping to secure a contract for its new BvS10 Beowulf
all-terrain vehicle (ATV) by the end of this year or the start of next year,
allowing serial production to start by the end of next year or the beginning of
2018, company officials told IHS Jane's at Eurosatory on 15
June. Tore Akser, ATV platform manager
for BAE Systems Hägglunds, said the company is having parallel discussions with
potential buyers in Europe, South America and Asia, with the potential clients
ranging from those who already operate the Beowulf's predecessor, the Bv202, or
the armoured ATV from which it is derived, the BvS10 Viking, to those with no
experience of operating BAE Systems Hägglunds ATVs.

Krauss-Maffei Wegmann has launched the FLW500, which is the latest entry to its FLW family of remote weapon stations (RWS) at Eurosatory 2016. The latest FLW500 has a typical weight of 500 kg above the deck but this depends on the type of weapons fitted and associated ammunition supply. The version being shown at the exhibition is armed with the Orbital ATK Armament Systems 30 mm M230LF dual-feed low-recoil weapon that is provided with 150 rounds of ready to use ammunition. A co-axial 7.62 mm FN-MAG machine gun (MG) is provided with 250 rounds of ready use ammunition. The weapons are fully stabilised with the mount featuring electric traverse through 360° and elevation from -10 to 50°.
acheteurs potentiels.
The Aimpoint 3XC-1 is the standard grade addition for use by civilian and law enforcement shooters.

Malmö,
Sweden-based Aimpoint (Hall 6, Stand J352), a leader in electronic red-dot
sighting technology, has introduced three new accessory magnifiers to its
product line, all designed to work in conjunction with its electronic reflex
sights. The Aimpoint 3XC-1 is the standard grade addition for use by
civilian and law enforcement shooters, with 3XMag-1 and 6XMag-1 being higher
grade products used in more demanding applications in tougher environments. The 6XMag-1
is intended for use in combination with its Micro T-2 sight, because this model
has been optimised for higher magnification.
NAMFI is the only firing range in Europe with the ability to host ATBM firings.

The NATO Missile Firing
Installation (NAMFI) (Hall 5, Stand HG470) is a multinational training
installation on the island of Crete, which was established with the
multilateral agreement signed on 11 June 1964, initially by eight countries.
Today, three countries – Germany, Greece and the Netherlands – are still
parties of the agreement and support and use NAMFI on permanent basis. NAMFI is
administratively controlled by the Hellenic National Defence General Staff and
manned by military and civilian personnel from the Hellenic Armed Forces. The
firing range provides high-quality services for training, testing,
experimentation and live firings for land, sea and air units, with year-round
favourable weather conditions.

General Dynamics European Land Systems – Mowag
(Hall 5, Stand G847) is showing its latest Piranha 5 (8x8) armoured personnel
carrier (APC), which has recently been selected and ordered by two customers. The first customer is the Danish Army, which
placed a contract for 309 vehicles in January 2016 with options that could
increase this to 450 units. Denmark will take delivery from 2018-23 and in
addition to the APC more specialised versions include ambulance, command and
control, engineer, mortar and repair. They will replace the currently deployed
tracked BAE Systems M113 APC and variants, which have been upgraded several
times but now need replacing.
This 25th Eurosatory land, air-land defence and
security show organised by the French federation of industries in those
sectors, GICAT, and its exhibition subsidiary COGES, confirms its position as
the leading such show in the world with the continuing rise in companies
exhibiting here: 1,571, up from 1,504 in 2014. The show is dominated by non-French companies: of
the 1,571 exhibitors, only 560 are French. The US forms the largest non-French
contingent, with 139 companies making the transatlantic trip. Close on its
heels are the 114 German companies, followed by the UK (80), Israel (51), Italy
(47) and Austria (40).
MBDA Deutschland unveiled a high-energy laser effector
By Wording OD
As conceived, the system could integrate MBDA’s
Mistral short-range missile with the Rheinmetall MPCS turret as a successor to
Stinger-based systems. The system could be easily installed on several
platforms, including the German Boxer vehicle. As well as providing
rapid-reaction air defence for mobile escort protection duties, the system
includes command and control/ reconnaissance capability.MBDA Deutschland and Rheinmetall also suggested
that the system could be networked as an element of an integrated air defence
system.
The largest
outdoor stand at Eurosatory 2016 is that of KMW + Nexter Defense Systems (KNDS)
(A570). This follows the merger of Germany’s Krauss- Maffei Wegmann and French
company Nexter Systems in December 2015. The formation of KNDS represents the beginning of
consolidation of land defence systems in Europe, which are still fragmented. In
a statement issued here, KNDS co-chief executive officers Stéphane Mayer and
Frank Haun said: “We are glad to present our new step forward on the path to a
strong European defence group through our new name and our common presence
during Eurosatory.”
