BAE Systems completes development of Striker II digital pilots helmet

By Wording OD

BAE Systems has completed development of its Striker II digital helmet mounted display as part of its bid to offer a replacement for the existing analogue Striker that is used by existing Eurofighter Typhoon operators.
The new version incorporates integral night vision capability so pilots do not have use night vision goggles (NVG) when flying at night, as is the case with the existing version of the Striker.
Paul Smith, BAE Systems' future cockpit design advisor, told IHS Jane's on 8 June that the new helmet's night vision capability was fully integrated with the controls of the Typhoon and it could be activated by the flick of a switch on the aircraft's Hands On-Throttle And Stick (HOTAS).
"With the old helmet the pilot had to flip his NVG up and down when he wanted to use then," he said.
The company-funded product is awaiting an order and will be on display at the 2016 Farnborough International Airshow in July, he said.
